Lightning Glassworks & Screens: A Colorado Family Story of Glass, Repairs, and Resilience
Before the company officially launched in 1990, Grandpa Jerry ran a small glass and glazing shop, doing everything from basic window glass to more complex projects. His shop was the training ground for Marshall, who learned the trade hands-on—measuring, cutting, installing, and repairing glass for real customers with real problems: broken glass panes, missing window parts, and storm damage. In that environment, core values took shape: show up, work hard, be honest, and repair when possible instead of replace.
Everything shifted when Grandpa Jerry was struck by Guillain–Barré syndrome and became temporarily paralyzed. Overnight, responsibility for the business moved to Marshall. Instead of backing away, Marshall stepped in and ran the operation – keeping jobs moving, customers supported, and the shop operating during a critical period. That experience proved he could carry the trade and the business on his own shoulders.

When Grandpa Jerry recovered, Colorado’s Front Range was hit with heavy hailstorms that triggered a surge in demand for glass repair. Rather than simply return to the previous status quo, Marshall made a strategic move: launch a new company built around speed, clarity, and repair-first thinking. That company became Lightning Glassworks & Screens.
From day one, Lightning focused on fast, accurate glass repair and replacement – without defaulting to full window replacement when targeted glass repair made more sense. The name “Lightning” was chosen to reflect operational reality: quick response, efficient scheduling, and clean, correct installs.
Around 2000, Marshall relocated Lightning Glassworks & Screens to Colorado Springs, positioning the company to serve the broader I-25 corridor. Since then, the business has supported both residential and commercial customers with window glass replacement, patio door glass, custom window screens, and related window repair services. Throughout that growth, Lightning Glassworks & Screens remained a family operation. Marshall and his wife Amy had 4 children: Jake, Jessi, Jed and Hayden.

A key strategic advantage is local fabrication of insulated double-pane glass units (IGUs). By fabricating many IGUs locally in Colorado, Lightning Glassworks & Screens shortens lead times, improves quality control, and supports a 5-year seal warranty on its insulated units. That combination of speed and durability is central to the company’s value proposition.
Today, Lightning Glassworks & Screens reflects 35+ years of focused glass and glazing experience, backed by hundreds of combined years across the team. The mission is unchanged: repair what can be repaired, replace what truly needs replacement, and deliver durable, clear glass solutions with efficient, honest workmanship that stands on its own.
